With brighter days and warmer weather ahead, now is the perfect time to start planning summer days out. From family-friendly events to festivals and club nights, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Read on for our pick of the best events in Towcester, Northampton, Milton Keynes, and beyond.

Things to do this May

6 – 8 May

Coronation Bank Holiday Weekend. The Coronation of King Charles on 6 May will be marked with events across the country and a concert and laser light show at Windsor Castle on Sunday 7 May. Pubs, clubs and bars will be open for an extra two hours on Friday and Saturday of the coronation weekend and street parties will be held everywhere.

Sunday 14 May

Grafton Point to Point: Pack a picnic and enjoy pony and horse racing at Edgcote Race Course near Banbury, with stalls and attractions for all the family.

Friday 19 May

Former Radio 1 DJ and I’m A Celebrity contestant Chris Moyles brings his 90s Hangover tour to Northampton’s County Ground. Find out more.

23 – 27 May

RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The world’s greatest flower show with stunning gardens, gorgeous floral displays and exclusive shopping opportunities.

27 May – 4 June

Colourscape, Waddesdon Manor. Returning for its ninth year, Colourscape is an intense light, colour and space experience throughout 56 interlinked chambers, with unusual musical experiences along the way.

Friday 16 – Sunday 18 June

Buckingham Literary Festival. This weekend celebration of books, poetry and drama welcomes a host of acclaimed authors and speakers.

Towcester Midsummer Music Festival. Described as South Northamptonshire’s summertime gastronomic extravaganza, this celebration of artisan food and drink is held at Towcester Racecourse.

Northampton Hot Air Balloon Festival: Fun for all the family with arena entertainment, Punch and Judy, trade and charity stalls and festival catering.

 

Tuesday 20 – Saturday 24 June

Royal Ascot. Revered world-wide, Royal Ascot is a racing and social calendar highlight.

 

Tuesday 27 June – Sunday 2 July

Henley Royal Regatta. One of the most famous regattas in the world dating back to the 19th century. Best enjoyed with a glass of Pimms from the banks of the River Thames.

 

 

What’s happening in July?

Saturday 1 – Sunday 2 July

Newport Pagnell Carnival. The biggest and oldest running Carnival in Milton Keynes has a Hollywood theme this year and offers two days of live music, stalls, classic cars, a dog show and a duck race.

Friday 7 – Sunday 9 July

Formula 1 British Grand Prix, Silverstone. The biggest and fastest sporting event in the UK and the highlight of the F1 year.

Saturday July 8

Classic Ibiza. This festival experience concert will take place at Delapre Abbey where a 32-piece live orchestra will play some of the biggest dance hits of the last 30 years.

Friday 21 – Sunday 30 July

Milton Keynes International Festival. Produced by The Stables, IF: Milton Keynes International Festival presents a world-class, multi-arts programme over 10 days, which includes large-scale and family events.

 

Family days out in August 

Friday 4 – Sunday 6 August

Monster Energy British Grand Prix MOTOGP, Silverstone.  A family friendly festival weekend based around a prestigious bike championship.

Saturday 5 August

Blakesley Show. A traditional rural day out. The Show is made up of a wide range of exhibiting classes for horses, cattle and sheep plus over a hundred trade stands and a gymkhana. This 138th annual show is an unmissable event for lovers of country life.

Thursday 31 August

Bucks County Show.  Weedon Park on the outskirts of Aylesbury town is home to the Bucks County Show, known as one of the best one-day agricultural shows in the country with 60 cattle classes and 30 sheep classes. There are also over 80 equine classes including show jumping and qualifiers for the Horse of the Year Show and the Royal International Horse Show.
